YOUp@ Participants

The intercultural "Youth Parliament on democracy" event will be held from 24-28 May 2010 in the city of Eibar(Basque Country, Spain). The following 25 Young participants are invited to debate "in situ" about Youth, participatory democracy and new media.
 

andrej pavlisic

Andrej Pavlišic was born in 1980 and has aquired a MA in political science at the University of Ljubljana. Among them sociology of urban space, independent publishing, radical theory and practice, self-managed spaces, direct democracy and autonomous politics in general. He lives and works in Ljubljana, Slovenija.

Julija Sardelic

Julija Sardelic was born in 1983 and she graduated in sociology of culture and comparative literature at the Faculty of Arts in Ljubljana. Since 2006, she has worked as a journalist at Radio Študent, she also wrote for a student magazine . She works as a researcher at the Department of Sociology, Faculty of Arts in Ljubljana.

Sara Ni Chuireain

Sara Ní Chuireáin is originally from Gaoth Dobhair and she is now living in Belfast. She is an Irish Language Researcher. She loves learning about what drives other people because in her opinion dialogue is the best educator. She loves travelling and meeting new people mainly so she can hear what they have to say and see where she stands in relation to that.

Alvin

Alvin Carpio - graduated from the School of Oriental and African Studies with a BA in History and Politics. He is a Community Organiser at Europe's largest community organising group Citizens UK, heading its national digital media strategy, working on the Living Wage Campaign and community organising in North London. He is a researcher in social enterprise, education, the emerging markets, art and technology; and a freelance photographer and website designer.

 

Jennifer Robins is a 3rd year medical student from UEA, involved in campaigning for youth issues and increasing young participation in democracy. She is a facilitator for young film makers at the largest permanent digital gallery in Europe and works for Sexpression- a medical student led charity educating safe sex and relationships.

Ruth

Ruth Muir is a masters student of Development Studies at IDS (University of Sussex, Brighton). ‘good governance’ and the maintenance of the legitimacy of democratic systems around
the world are key concerns to her. Democratic renewal, and the legitimacy of any democratic system, clearly rests on the re-engagement of the public through sustained involvement and ownership of the  democratic process. She believes in the use of new media, and ICTs, to achieve such participation.

Mitan

Mitan Paten is a student in the UK involved in various youth projects. He wants to share his ideas about how we use the new media as an outlet to strengthen youth democracy. He thinks in the UK there is still very little mention about help for the young people in the country.

Dani

Dani Arguño is a student in the Basque Country involved in various youth projects. He comes from Vitoria-Gasteiz and he is studying psychology sciences at university.He thinks that he learns more related things out of the faculty than inside.

ane aiestaran

Ane Aiestaran is 21 years old. She lives in the Basque Country and she is studying nursing. She has participated in several youth projects and she works for an intercultural association as a volunteer. She loves travelling and meeting new people and new cultures.

Ruth

Uroš Murko was born in Maribor. His education finished at the faculty of education in Maribor (profesor of geography and philosophy). Among the study he was actiwe in student politics. Now he is teaching philosophy and working as a computer trainer for older pepole.

ciara burch

Ciara Burch is from Belfast. She is currently studying for a masters degree in Peace and Conflict Studies at the University of Ulster. She studied history for her undergraduate degree in England and just returned from a 3 month study exchange programme with the University of St Pauls, in Ottawa, Canada. She is interested in the use of media in engaging young people with current issues

Edurne Donlo

Edurne Donlo was born in Navarra. She studies psychology sciences in the Basque Country. She likes meeting people and exchanging different points of view, because she thinks it's a good way to break barriers. She has a little experience in this kind of events but it will be a good way to start!

nikola stojanovic

Nikola Stojanović was born in Maribor. He is studying history at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Maribor and he is working in ACE Kibla . He is currently involved in various Youth in action projects.

Lidija Pacnik

Lidija Pacnik was born in Maribor and is a student of Tourism management at University of Primorska. She has been working as an assistant project manager in KIBLA since 2007 and as a chief of administration for EU projects. She's interested in contemporary (interactive, multimedia and intermedia)art and a great supporter of artist whose works criticise the social and political systems.

Luka Hrvatin

Luka Hrvatin was born in 1983 in Slovenia and graduated at the University of Ljubljana / Faculty of Arts / Department of Translation. Since 2007 he has been working as an English and Italian teacher and freelance translator. Being constantly surrounded by young people, he always wondered what their point of view is and what they think about politics. He loves theatre and travelling.

Daša Petrović

Daša Petrović was born in Maribor. She is food technology engineer. She is working in ACE Kibla as a CULTURE ASSOCIATE and is involved in a few Youth in action projects(E-collaboration Youth and HIV/AIDS prevention, The Violence of Information and Youth Parliament on Democracy.

Patxi Belinchon

Patxi Belinchon is 23 years old and was born in Donostia-San Sebastián. He graduated in Social Education and nowadays he is studying Psychopedagogy at the Basque University. He is involved in several youth related projects. He is interested in new technologies and likes meeting new people and cultures. He likes going to the cinema and playing football.

Neil Hutcheson

Neil Hutcheson was born and bred in Belfast, he works for a non-profit organisation ‘Include Youth’. He is currently implementing an Education, Training, Employment and overall wellbeing service for those under the care umbrella of The Belfast Health and Social Care Trust. He advocates on a daily basis for this group, and believes that whilst New Media can better inform us and encourage participation, the challenge is to enable real change via this medium. He believes we should always aim to engage with, and encompass views of those furthest removed from mainstream society. But how?

Nathan

Nathan is 20 years old and was born in Northern Ireland. He is currently in college studying uniformed public services in preparation for the royal navy. He likes playing, listening and writing music, camping and general outdoors activities. He is involved in a group called WIMPS that raises awareness of issues effecting young people to politicians on behalf of the young people of Northern Ireland.

Dušan Križančič

Dušan Križančič was born in 1983, was studying ethnology and cultural anthropology on the faculty of arts at the university of ljubljana, now studying german language and history in Maribor. He is also working in a bar and as a freelance translator, sometimes coordinating web projects. He never went to vote because what was offered was just not good enough.

Patricia

Patricia was born in Alicante 26 years ago. She graduated in business administration and tourism activities. After working in these kind of issues she decided to change and now she is working in a hospital in Benidorm in the administrative department and as an auxiliar. She likes working for others expecting nothing in return, as a selfless contribution . She loves meeting new people and knowing other cultures, as a way of breaking barriers.
